The Kids Of The Youth Detention Center, Chapter 10, We’ll Stay Together

It was a new day and I went to go and join the boys .

” Oh hey guys ”, I said, as I walked in .

” Hey Detroit ”, Miles said .

” Did everybody get good sleep ?”, I asked .

” Yeah ”, everyone replied .

” Great, I’m looking forward to today ”, I said .

” Yeah, where are we gonna be going ?”, Carson asked, as he was rubbing his eyes .

” I don’t know, I think that we should go to this park, it has like a mountain top, and you get the best view ”, I replied .

” Sounds good to me ”, Jay said .

” Yeah, sounds fun, we should go ”, Dylan answered .

” Yeah ”, I said . ” I think that we need a break, we’ve had it hard ”, I added .

” Yeah, usually when I get stressed or whenever I feel uneasy, you just spend some time with nature, my dad told me that, and I’ve been doing it ever since he died, god, I miss him so much ”, Miles said, as he started getting emotional .

” I’m so sorry, he’s in a better place now, may he rest in peace ”, I said .

” Yeah, my dad always told me, that if you spend time with nature, you’ll always be okay in life ”, he told me .

” Maybe he’s right, but he’s up there, watching down at you, and he’ll be supportive at every move you make, and he’s probably a very proud father ”, I said, with a sigh .

” Yeah, thank you so much, guys, I don’t know where I would be without you, I’d be a lost cause ”, Dylan said .

” Yeah, you’d never be a lost cause, we are all on this planet for a reason, and the society will not erase us, we’ll go down in history, it will always be that way ”, Jay added .

” Yeah”, He answered .

”Ok, shall we get going ?”, I asked .

” Yeah, let’s go ”, Carson replied, as he got up and headed out the door . After a ten minute walk, we finally reached our destination . The view was beautiful and we were very high up .

” Oh wow, look at the view ”, Carson said, as he took one glance at the view in front of him .

” Oh god, I can’t remember the last time I ever saw a view like this ”, Miles mumbled .

” Yeah, it’s been forever, it just makes you feel grateful for what you have, you just have to make do of you have, because you don’t know what you’ve got until you haven’t got it anymore ”, Dylan said .

” Yeah, it’s very hard and very morbid ”, Carson added .

” Yeah, guys, look at that sunset, it’s amazing ”, Jay replied . The sun was setting, it looked beautiful then ever .

” Hey Detroit, have you ever seen a sunset before ?”, Jay asked .

” Yeah, are you kidding me, I used to watch them all the time, but it’s been a long time since I have been home, I just wish that I could turn back time, you know ?”, he replied .

” Haha, wish we could turn back time ”, Carson sang, to wind up Detroit .

” Oh come on, Carson, did you really have to do that ?”, I said .

” Yes, it was the perfect moment, you could never have too much Cher ”, he said .

” Yeah, you’ll be home very soon, I promise ”, Jay said, as he looked me in the eye . The sun finally went down and the place went dark . And Miles, Jay and Dylan went on a little walk about, and me and Carson had some time for ourselves, so we had a chat .

” Oh, it’s dark here, isn’t it ?”, I said, as he looked around me .

” Yeah, I’m scared of the dark, please don’t leave me here alone ”, he hollowed, as he started crying .

” Don’t worry, I won’t leave you here, what happened, you were ok a minute ago, you were singing Cher ”, I said .

” Well, I’m just worried that I won’t come out of prison alive ”, he replied .

” Why are you so worried about that, there’s no reason for you to not come out of prison alive ”, I said .

” Yeah but, nobody does fraud and comes out of prison alive, the police will always find you and they will kill you for it ”, he said . ” I know a bunch of people who did fraud or bank robberies and they don’t make it back home ”, he added .

” Well, all I know is that you’ll be free and you’ll be thriving as a new man ”, I said, as I tapped him on the shoulder . ” You’ll be home soon ”, I added .

” Well, I don’t wanna go home ”, I said .

” Why not ?”, I asked .

” Because, I don’t want to see my parents ”, he replied .

”Yeah but, won’t they be worried about you ?”, I asked .

”No, are you kidding me, they don’t give a shit, they won’t care if I ended up getting killed or beaten up, they won’t care, but that doesn’t bother me, nun ”, he replied and shouted .

” Look, you’ll be fine, I bet that the police don’t care anymore ”, I said .

” Ok, thank you for your support and faith, but we all know that I’m coming out of prison alive ”, he said, as he got up and walked up to a cliff .

” Woah woah woah, what are you doing ?”, I asked, I waved my arms in the air .

” I’m gonna jump off of a cliff ”, he replied, as he turned around and looked at me .

” No, don’t do that, get down ”, I said, as I pulled him away .

” What are you doing, man ?”, he asked, as he tried to shake me off of him .

” I’m saving you ”, I replied .

” There’s nothing to save, what’s the point of being alive now, I’m probably gonna get killed anyway, so what’s the point of staying alive ”, he said .

” Yes there is, you have a bright future ahead of you and when you die, you won’t have one anymore, being alive is the best thing ever ”, I told him .

” Detroit, don’t you get it, I don’t have a future, it ran away from me a long long time ago, and what’s the point of even having one, the only thing is you are gonna live to see is hate and ignorance, so why stop sooner ”, he explained, as he looked at me with fear in his eyes .

” Come on, there’s good in the world, you just have to look, and you certainly can’t experience the good if you are dead, imagine watching the sunset and hearing the birds sing, will you be able to do that if you are dead ?, no, exactly, there’s more to life then just experiencing ignorance, surely there is ignorance, but don’t let it change you, I know that your parents were ignorant and abusive, but don’t be like them, you are a good kid, and you’ll go down in history ”, I told him .

” But you don’t get it, I’m a bad person, I did a crime that nobody can forgive me for, and I’ll get what I deserve ”, I said .

” No, I know that you did a crime and it’s bad but you have learned from your mistakes and you are willing to change yourself for the better and life is full of mistakes but we’ll learn from them and it doesn’t matter if we all did bad things, the important thing is that we are all here together, living in the moment ”, I explained .

” I still don’t know why it had to be me, why couldn’t it have been someone else who gets the punishment ?”, he mumbled .

” I don’t know, but the thing is, yeah, is that, it’s not our fault that we do these things, we are driven to do them, kids are innocent and we are not left to be ourselves and we have no idea that our actions have consequences, so when we are left to make our own way in this world,  we don’t know any better and we end up making the wrong decisions and it just digs us deeper into the ground, and when we grow up, our innocence level decreases and we begin to lose control ”, I explained . Then suddenly, Jay, Miles and Dylan came back .

” Hey guys, is everything ok ?”, Jay asked .

” Yeah, everything is fine, we just had a chat ”, I replied .

” Is Carson ok, why is he crying ?”, Dylan asked .

” Yeah, he’s just a bit scared because he thinks that he won’t come out of prison alive, and that the police will do something to him ”, I explained .

” That’s nonsense, of course he’ll come out alive, he’s brave as heck ”, Jay said .

” Well, my mum don’t want me, my dad won’t want me, I have no where else to go, dying is my only option ”, Carson said .

” No, you are not gonna die, you’ll live like a champ, you’re gonna be great ”, Miles told him .

” Ok, thanks for your support, I love you guys, thanks for being by my side ”, Carson said, as he hugged us .

The next day, we woke up, we had a long night at the park and returned back to the prison to say goodbye to each other . Meanwhile, Carson told us that he was gonna go and get something, so we waited for him .

” Hey, where are you going ?”, I asked him .

” Oh, I just forgot something outside, I’ll see you later, maybe ”, he said, as he waved and left . It was kind of dark outside and five minutes went past and there was still no sign of Carson. By the time Carson left, he walked in the middle of the street and suddenly, something terrible happened to him, the police saw him and chased after him, Carson ran to hide and he entered a phone box and dialed some numbers . Jay picked up the phone in a flash .

” Hello, Carson, is that you ?”, Jay asked, as he picked up the phone .

” Yeah it is, listen, I need your help ”, Carson replied, with him, running out of breath .

” Yeah ok, what’s going on ?”, Jay asked .

” I need you to come quick, man, the police are after me, what do I do ?”, he asked .

” Oh ok, stay put, don’t go anywhere, I’m coming now ”, Jay screamed, and he put down the phone .

” what’s going on, Jay ?”, I asked .

” It’s, it’s Carson, the police are after him, we need to go and hide him ”, Jay replied, as he started panicking .

” We need to go, come on ”, Jay said . And we ran to Carson’s rescue, but it was too late, the police had already shot him, he lied flat on the ground, with his face flat on the floor .

” Oh my god, Carson, are you ok ?”, I asked, as I started crying .

” Why did it have to go this way, what did he do wrong to deserve this ?”, Dylan cried .

The poor boy deserved better, he didn’t deserve to get shot, he had a future ahead of him . After the night of sorrow, it was time to get discharged and to reunite with our parents, the sun rose and it was bright . I saw all the parents coming out of the homes to reunite with their kids again . And then I saw Carson’s dad, he walked out with a very unhappy face .

” What are you doing here, you didn’t do anything but kill your beloved son, you sicko, you are a killer, you know that, first, you have killed your wife and then you kill your son, your only son, but you know what ?, he ain’t here to hug you, why not bugger off, you damn drunk ”, I shouted . He just looked at me and cried . And I walked off and I went to say hi to my mother . I saw her and I froze for a second and then I ran into her arms.

” I’m so glad that you’re safe ”, she said .

” I missed you so much, I love you, mum ”, I said and I hugged her tight . And then Jay saw us, and he did a fumbs up and smiled, and I did a fumbs up back .

{ Then it shows a bunch of people taking Carson’s body away}

My time at the prison was up and I made lifelong friends and we suffered loss and struggled and we held our friend’s hands and we let go and Carson will be greatly missed, the kid had it coming and he couldn’t escape it, but he’s in a place that’s more safe, and he’s in the right hands .
