The Kids On The East Side Of Town, Chapter 1, The Eagles

Ok so what you’re about to read is a little story that I wrote, it’s about these two gangs that spark rivalries with each other, this is by far the best story that I have ever wrote, so buckle up, grab a snack, grab a drink, get comfortable and maybe grab a box of tissues, cause you’re gonna need it, ok, thank you, I hope you enjoy, have a nice day .

It was Monday 3rd of March, 1975 in Hackney, where the nights and days were young and were full of life, however, when it comes to street gangs, it wasn’t so pleasant, the streets were quiet and full of territory, however, lurking the streets of Stamford Hill, was a gang called The Eagles, and they were bold and fearless. They all wore denim jackets and they all had greased and combed hair, they were called The Eagles because it represented themselves, the word ” Eagle ” represents a bird that never fades away, so whenever something gets them down, they’ll always fly back up and they’ll never die. But this time, they were running back from trouble on the streets, there was another gang that keeps ganging up on them and causing all sorts of trouble . They were running for their lives, they were gasping and running out of breath . They were running for quite a while but they made sure that the gang wouldn’t approach them. They were a gang called The Rejects.  They had money and they were middle class, but they would always gang up on The Eagles just because they were poor and different but the only thing The Eagles had was each other .

There were six members of the gang. There was Dominick Jones, Jamie Forrester, Johnny Branson, Kevin Costner, Emmett Yohanson and Travis Fisher and they came from The Eagles gang, there were ten members from The Rejects gang, there was Carter, Jacob, Jack, Daniel, Samuel, Julian, Dylan, Leo and Jason, they were all in their twenties and The Eagles had a wide range of different ages. Johnny was 15, Travis was 19, Dominick was 21, Kevin was 23, Jamie was 24, but not Emmett, he was about 18 . The Rejects wore madras shirts and polo tops, but The Eagles stood out from them. The Eagles were a gang who would always stick together and go through times together, whereas The Rejects, they would just be stupid and think that they are tough when they are not . Anyway, The Eagles were in great danger, they had no place to go, they all had trouble back at home, so they all had to take themselves to the streets and hang around with the other street gangs. Emmett was the main member of the gang, he was a Juvenile Delinquent, he would always go out and do illegal things, as well as robbing the dollar stores and petrol stations, he was the person who would keep the gang together and would never let it go astray . He would always win the ladies, he’d win their hearts in the most manipulative ways, he would always be there for the gang when they need him the most . Johnny was the sort of kid that anyone would fall for, he is so sweet and so innocent and he tries to stay out of trouble . Kevin is the sort of person who would be humorous and he’d always cheer the gang up when they’re feeling down. Dominick is a charming young lad, he was a high school drop out and he ended up on the streets of Hackney, but he tries to stick with the gang and he makes sure that he’s always there .

Jamie  is the boss of the group, he keeps them aligned and ready for whatever hits them. Some of them come from troubled back rounds and dysfunctional families, so they’d feel much more safe on the streets then in their homes . Travis’s parents have passed away, he had to make his own way in the world. His parents died in a car crash, they died when he was young. He kept getting visions of them being in the crash and it sort of traumatized him for life . Johnny came from a dysfunctional family, his mother would always hit him, his father was an alchoholic, he’d often get drunk and abuse him, so Johnny just remains on the empty streets with the other gang members. He also got jumped a few times, The Rejects would always threaten to stab him and cut his hair, he also got traumatized from those sorts of things . Kevin came from a poor family, they had to vend for themselves, no money for hygiene, no money for food, no money to pay for the bills and taxes, but he was taught to appreciate the finer things in life and just laugh at everything. Dominick also came from an abusive family and dropped out of secondary school at a very young age, his parents always humiliated him for it, they called him a ” High School, Good For Nothing, Drop out ”, but he often didn’t care, he just moved on .

The gang was dying to go inside of a house .

” Come on, hurry up, it’s cold out here ”, Jamie panicked .

” Where are we gonna go, there’s no where to go ”, Dominick said softly, he was out of breath . Then suddenly, they came across this paticular house. It had two windows on the top. The house wasn’t by itself, it had two other houses attached to it, sort of like a penthouse . The lights appeared to be on, they had no other choice but to go inside, they were cold, hungry and tired . There appeared to be someone in there, so the gang stayed silent so that the person couldn’t hear them . The person got up and walked over to the room to see who was there .

” What are you guys doing here ?”, the person asked .

” Who are you ?”, Jamie asked, as he was thoroughly shocked .

” I am Liam, who are you guys ?”, Liam asked .

” I am Jamie, this is Emmett, this is Johnny, this is Dominick, this is Travis and that is Kevin ”, Jamie introduced the gang to Liam .

” Hey ”, Johnny said, as he waved .

” Hiya ”, Emmett said .

” Hi ”, Dominick said .

” Hello ”, Travis said .

” Hey ya’ll ”, Kevin said .

” Hey, nice to meet you ”, Liam said, as he smiled. ” So, what are you guys doing here ?”, Liam asked .

” Well, we had a bit of trouble with a bunch of kids on the street, there’s no where to go, we’re just gonna die in the freezing cold ”, Jamie replied, as he started feeling hopeless .

” Well, you’re always welcome to stay here, mi casa, es su casa ”, Liam said, proudly, as he swung his arms around .

” Do you have any beef burgers, like Whestlers ?”, Kevin asked .

” No, I don’t have any beef burgers, sorry mate ”, Liam replied, disappointingly .

” Ok, no worries ”, Kevin said .

” Well, now that I have met you all, tell me a little bit about yourselves ”, Liam said, as he sat down on a chair . ” Jamie, let’s start with you ”, he added .

” Ok, I’m Jamie, I used to be a lawyer but I got fired, now I’m just spending my days and just taking it one day at a time, hoping for a change one day ”, Jamie said .

” Ok and you, Dominick ?”, Liam asked .

” I used to be a doctor but I also got fired ”, explained Dominick .

” I am Emmett, I don’t have a job, I spend half of my time just doing  drag racing and hanging around in petrol stations  and I spend my nights, partying with babes ”, Emmett said .

” I’m Kevin, I used to work in a petrol station but my boss excluded me for no reason what’s so ever ”, Kevin said .

” I’m Johnny, I just lend help with my cousin’s business, he repairs broken furniture ”, Johnny said .

” And I’m Travis, I don’t really have a job yet, I don’t really have the qualifications for it, I keep telling myself, ” I get a job, get a job ”, but I just can’t one and they see me as a lay about with no qualifications or no potential ”, Travis said .

” Ok, I’m sure that you’re not a lay about, you must be good at something, it’s just that most people are not made for certain things, but you just have to find yourself, you’ll get there one day, mark my words ”, Liam said .

” Yeah, like you can find something and fit perfectly, it’s like a puzzle, some pieces can fit with others and some don’t, but that’s just how it is ”, Dominick said .

” Aww thanks guys, I’ll go for it ”, Travis said, as he smiled .

” Ok, do you have any friends ?”, Liam asked .

” No, I don’t, I never had any friends in secondary school, they went after other groups of friends, it’s like clique, every time we had PE, the teacher was like ” Ok everybody, pick a partner ” and I’d be absolutely frozen and lost, cause I never knew anybody, so when it was my turn to pick a group, I’d be hopeless, cause I knew that no girl or boy would look at me and take me in, they all just went with all the popular kids and didn’t give me a chance, not even once, they’d just give me a look like ” What are you doing here, you don’t belong here ”, and I just never wanted to go there again, cause I knew that that wasn’t the only time that it would be put in that situation and I was right, so you just gotta listen to your heart and you’ll be fine ”, Johnny explained .

” Yeah, I’m very sorry to hear that, I know on how tough it is, it may not seem like it, but deep down, it is, it’s not what it looks like, things are rough all over, doesn’t matter what family or back round you come from, we all experience the same things, but it depends on how you deal with them, if you put on a brave face and step out into the world and you believe in what you believe in, then you’ll definetely make it ”, Liam told him .

” Yeah, man’s speaking truths ”, Emmett said .

” Yeah, what about you guys, Dominick, Kevin, Travis, Emmett and Jamie, do you have any friends ?”, Liam asked .

” No, I don’t have any friends, neither does Kevin, Dominick, Emmett or Jamie, but we all would love a friend, it would mean a lot to us ”, Travis said .

” Well, you’ll always have a friend in me ”, Liam said and they all hugged .

” After our conversation, I thought that it would be a great idea if we all went outside, nobody else but you and mother nature, so we did so. We also had a chance to see the stars just glistening in the moonlit sky. I grew to like the lads, I never knew about them getting in serious trouble, but I do appreciate them coming to see me when they did ” .

The boys were sitting on a hill, watching the stars glisten in the sky and Johnny couldn’t believe it .

” Woah, the stars are looking beautiful tonight ”, Johnny said .

” Yeah, It’s beautiful, oh look, a shooting star, have you ever wished upon a shooting star before ?”, Liam asked .

” No, not really ”, Johnny answered .

” Why not ?”, Liam asked .

” Because it’s like witch craft, innit ?, I don’t trust it ”, Johnny replied .

” Have you ever wished upon a shooting star before, Dominick ?”, Liam asked .

” No ”, Dominick replied .

” Why not, you should, it’s great ”, Liam said .

” No, I know somebody who tried it, she wished to be happy and healthy, then somebody delivered horse shit to her door, but it’s weird, cause like, where the hell did they get the horse shit from ?, there are no horses and ponies around here, the world’s in a weird place at the moment ”, Dominick replied .

” Really, that isn’t very accurate ”, Liam said .

” Well, it is what it is ”, Dominick said .

” Cool, I wonder what’s down there in that building over there ”, Liam said, desperate to change the subject .

” Yeah, probably something very stupid ”, Johnny said .

” Something stupid ?”, Liam questioned Johnny .

” Yeah like, somebody’s down there, doing a circus ”, Johnny replied .

” Is that normal for a chance of that happening ?”, Liam asked .

” No not really, it gives me the creeps all the time ”, Johnny replied .

” What do you see in places like that ?”, Liam asked .

” Oh um, I see clowns doing tap dancing and they do this really weird trance thing with maracas and they also make tea ”, Johnny replied .

” Ok, I’m sure that the tap dancing and the trance thing is weird, but the tea, everyone makes tea ”, Liam said, as he started feeling confused .

” Not where I am, they see it as a bad omen ”, Johnny said .

” Ok well, that’s just great, I made some for you, I guess that’s a lost cause ”, Liam said .

” What, you made some already ?”, Johnny questioned, as he started laughing .

” Made what already ?”, Dominick asked, as he butted in .

” Liam made us tea ”, Johnny replied .

” Yeah man, witch craft is gonna happen, brace yourselves ”, Emmett said as he joined in .

” I’ll have some of that, I don’t mind, don’t mind at all ”, Travis said .

” WITCH CRAFT ”, Emmett shouted .

” No, witch craft isn’t gonna happen ”, Liam said, as it started to get on his nerves. Then suddenly, Johnny started singing to wind him up .

” Liam went ahead and made us tea, we are gonna be scarred for whole eternity, witch craft is happening to you and me ”, Johnny sang to wind him up .

” Enough Johnny ”, Liam told Johnny as he tried to stop him and then, Dominick started singing as well .

” Witch craft, we are gonna die, you are gonna die, he is gonna die, yeahhh, it’s witch craft ”, Dominick sang, as he pointed at everyone and Kevin and Jamie just sat there, laughing their heads off .

” Dominick, please, nobody’s gonna die, stop it with the witch craft crap ”, Liam told Dominick .

” It’s true though, I read it in a book, see, it happens to people in the east, it seems to happen a lot in those places, but the good thing is that it won’t happen to us, so thank god for that ”, Johnny explained .

” What are you talking about, we are in the east, we’re not in Kathmandu ”, Emmett said .

” Oh yeah, silly me, don’t mind me, your old boy Johnny Branson, getting things mixed up again, just got mixed up with the whole thing, still fascinating though ”, he added .

” Guys, just stop it with the witch craft, I have a head ache ”, Liam shouted as he was annoyed .

” I think we should start heading back, it’s getting late ”, Dominick warned everybody .

” Yeah good idea ”, Liam replied and he and the rest of the gang made their way back to Liam’s place .

” I wonder on how witch craft happens ”, Emmett said as he opened his mouth .

” Emmett, not now ”, Liam said as he lost his patience .

” Okey dokey ”, Emmett said .

When they returned back at Liam’s place, they were sitting down in the living room and Liam wanted to have a bit of fun with the boys, since it was their first time they met, so they were singing songs, they had a dance, they had a lot of fun and Liam made a toast .

” Guys, guys, I have a confession to make, so as you all know, today was the first day in meeting each other and I’d just like to say that you guys are like brothers to me and you like family and I love you all, so cheers to another year ”, Liam said, as he raised his glass in the air .

” Cheers to another year, , may this one be jolly and fantastic, cheers Liam ”, Emmett said, as he raised his glass .

” Yeah cheers mate ”, Dominick said .

” Cheers to another year ”, Travis said .

” Guys, don’t get too cocky, we still have five years left until we can finally move on, can’t wait for the British revolution to happen ”, Kevin said and then he was clearly having a laugh .

” Oh leave it out, Kevin, let us have a bit of fun ”, Travis said .

” Hah hah heh heh, oh my god, this is epic ”, Emmett said, as he started laughing in the corner of the room. ” can I smash his glass, I’m gonna smash this glass ”, he said and then he smashed it, then he started laughing even more and he was leaning against the wall . A few minutes later, everybody fell asleep, the only person who was awake was Kevin, he was dancing on the table, gone completely mad, while everyone was out of it and then Kevin started singing Wang Chung, this was way before Wang Chung started making music .

” I walk a million miles, de de da da, just to be with you, everybody Wang Chung tonight, Wang Chung I’ll kick your ass, champagne ”, Kevin shouted, as he was singing and then he suddenly stopped and noticed that everyone was asleep, so he walked over to everybody and shouted in their ears .

” Guys, oh I get it, you people, I have an idea ”, Kevin said and he walked over to Liam and shouted in his ear, as well as everyone else’s .

” Rahhh, wake up, you sleepy head ”, Kevin shouted and Liam, Emmett, Jamie, Dominick, Johnny and Travis woke up and got scared .

” Ahhh Kevin, what are you doing, man ?”, Liam said, as he woke up and saw Kevin standing there, laughing .

” I wanted to wake you up, I had nothing else to do, anyway, why did you fall asleep ?”, Kevin asked .

” I don’t know, man, I just drank quite a bit, you know this stuff makes me feel sleepy ”, Liam replied, as he lifted his champagne bottle .

” Oh ok, I’m probably gonna go to sleep, where am I gonna sleep, do you have like a spare room or something ?”, Kevin asked .

” Um yeah, it’s a five bedroom house, so there’s a room upstairs ”, Liam replied .

” Ok great, where about is it ?”, Kevin asked .

” Um, so you go upstairs, then you take a few steps forward and then you take a left and from there, you should be able to find the room ”, Liam replied .

” Ok great, cheers, ok, Imma head off, goodnight guys, see you tomorrow ”, Kevin said, as he said goodnight to the rest of the gang .

”Goodnight Kevin, sleep well ”, Liam shouted .

” Goodnight Kev ”, Emmett said .

” Goodnight ”, Dominick, Jamie, Johnny, Travis and Emmett said and they went off into their spare rooms, charging up for another special day tomorrow .

Tomorrow, the boys are gonna throw a special welcome party for Liam to welcome him as a part of the gang and it’s gonna be fun . Read the next chapter to find out what happens .
