The Kids Of Youth Detention Center, Chapter 9, Very Close To Home

The next morning, it was two AM, the sun shone, it was very bright, it almost blinded me, but it was beautiful, it gave me hope, it made me think that today was gonna be a good day . I made my way to say good morning to the rest of the inmates, but when I did, I came to witness something very bad. I saw Carson sitting on the floor, with the rest of the group sitting beside him, it wasn’t looking too good from what I was seeing .

” Guys, what’s going on ”, I said, as I had panic in my voice . And there was silence, and they were just staring at me with a worried look on their faces .

” Guys, can’t you hear me, why are you guys acting like this ?”, I asked .

” Detroit, can I just borrow you for a minute ?”, Jay asked, as he brang me outside of the room .

” What’s going on, you’ll never tell me, did anybody beat him up again ?”, I asked .

” No, it’s nothing like that ”, he replied .

” Then, what is it then ?, is it a dirty secret, is it something that I shouldn’t know, you do know that, whatever happens to Carson, I’d be responsible for it ”, I said, as I started stumbling around and leaning against the wall ”. ” What shall we do, it doesn’t look good to me, this is terrible ”, I shouted .

” Detroit, I’m gonna need to ask you to calm down ”, He told me .

” No, I’m not going to, it’s never gonna happen, ahhhhh ”, I screamed, I was starting to lose control over myself, as I was banging the walls and Jay was pulling me away . I was just lost in my thoughts, I was starting to think that Carson’s future and past was haunting him, I talked to him about it, yesterday, but I don’t think that it was erased fully from his mind, it’s starting to get worrying now .

After I gave myself some time to calm down, I entered the room where the inmates were and I went to go and talk to Carson .

” Carson, are you okay ?”, I asked him with a quiet and soft voice .

” Huh, what are you guys doing here, why am I here ?”, he said, as he panicked .

” Look, it’s ok, there’s nothing wrong, we’re here for you ”, I assured him .

” What is going on here, why am I on the floor ?”, he asked as he spun around .

” I don’t know, what do you think the reason is ?”, I asked .

” I don’t know ”, he said and he started breaking down in tears .

” No, don’t cry, it’s alright ”, I said, as I made him sit up and gave him a tissue . ” Why don’t you just tell me why you are upset ?”, I said .

” Because I don’t want to pressure you for a useless reason ”, he replied .

” Look, there’s nothing useless about situations like these, you have to tell me about these problems ”, I said .

” Yeah well, if I’m included in them, it’s definetely not important ”, he said .

” No, that’s not true, you are important, if anything happened to you, I wouldn’t know what to do with myself, you are the coolest person I have ever met, but you hold many grudges, you need to accept yourself for who you are ”, I explained .

” Okay, it’s just very hard for me at the moment, you don’t know on how it feels, my future is trying to run away from me ”, he said, as he was resting his head on the radiator.

” Yeah, I understand, it’s very hard, did you get any new updates on your parent’s feud, if you are ok with sharing it, that is ”, I said .

” Yeah, it’s fine by me, ok so, it’s not good news, I’m afraid, I woke up to the news of hearing that on the day of the divorce, my parents had a fight and my mum got kicked out of the window and the glass shards peeled into her skin and now, she’s in critical condition, she’s in hospital ”, he told me .

” Oh god, that’s awful, that must be very painful, I can’t imagine, who told you ?”, I said .

” My uncle rang me, he was there in the house, the same time when it was going on, heh heh, he was screaming in fear, ” No, nooo, stop, stop, not the window, see what you did, you monster, she married a absolute monster, a lady killer ”, he explained, as he started breaking down .

” Look, it’s gonna be okay, is your father with her at the ward ?”, I asked .

” Huh, do you think that he gives a rat’s ass about her, he’d never sit aside her, such a cold blooded man, and he’s not just affecting his future, it’s gonna affect mine as well ”, he said, as he got up and shut the door behind him, I was gonna catch up with him but it was too late, he already left . But I couldn’t just let him run out, otherwise, the group would worry and be concerned about him, so I ran out of the room, to try and look for him .

” Hey Carson, wait up ”, I shouted, as I ran out, waving my hand in the air . When I stopped running, I saw Carson standing in the street, looking hopeless .

” Hey Carson, what are you doing out here, it’s freezing ”, I said .

” I just need to catch some air, I’m not feeling too good ”, he replied .

” Look, I know that you are still upset from earlier, but you can’t stay mad forever, I know that it’s gruesome, but the toll it’s gonna take on you, Carson, it’s not worth it, you shouldn’t let these things get in the way of your life and life may feel like shit now, but it will get better, trust me ”, I said .

” Yeah ”, he said as he looked on the floor .

” Hey, how about we go on a trip tomorrow, we can celebrate about the day we finally come home, and maybe, we can watch the sunset, yeah, it’s gonna be good ”, I said .

” Yeah, that would be great ”, he replied .

” So, are we cool ?”, I asked .

” Yeah, you know it ”, he said, as we done a fist bump and hand shake .

It was dark outside, so we went inside.

Tomorrow, we are gonna go on a trip together, I’m looking forward to it and I’m sure that everybody else is too .
