The Italian Job 1969

The Italian Job is my favourite film, I love it. It’s just one of those films that brings me so much joy every time I watch it. If you don’t know what it’s about, basically it’s about these guys who go to Italy and take part in a robbery involving gold bars by causing a traffic jam and all sorts of havoc. It’s got one of the best casts in cinema history. First you’ve got Michael Caine and loads of other brilliant actors like Benny Hill, Noel Coward and so many other greats. This is an absolute classic. It’s one of those films that takes you on a journey with these characters and it makes you laugh a lot. Every time I watch this film I feel like I want to be friends with all these characters, they’re so funny. I quote this film all the time. I’m talking about the original film, not the remake. If you want to watch a good film, it’s got to be the original. You can’t get any better than that.

Robert Powell is also in this film, even though he has a very minor role but he’s there and he was just brilliant, I loved him. I loved that bit where he didn’t want to sit at the back of the van because he gets migraines, I loved that bit, You can just see Michael slowly going mad with this guy. The reason why I love that scene so much is because everyone is just squabbling like a bunch of kids and you could just see Michael Cain slowly losing it, it’s great. What makes the scene even better is fast forward half way through the film you see everyone sitting in the back and that’s just funny.  Here is the scene. This will be the perfect scene to recreate with a bunch of friends, I love it. I love films that are about a bunch of working class misfits who get together and rebel against the establishment, they’re also so fun to watch.

Robert was so funny in that film, his facial expressions make me laugh every time. He just looks like he’s given up, really funny. He was really cute in this film too, I have a signed photo of him on my wall in my room, I love it so much. I talked about this film a lot on my blog, it’s one of my favourite films. The ending scene is hilarious too, one of the best cliff hanger endings of any film ever, so iconic. I’d love to know what happened to them but I feel like we’re never going to find out. Oh well, at least we have our imagination.

So, The Italian Job will always be my favourite film even though I have so many other faves. My dad introduced this film to me now I’m obsessed, I watch it every time it’s on, it’s just brilliant. I love the characters, I love the soundtrack, everything about the film I love and you go on a journey with these characters and it really feels like you’re there and you’re in on all the chaos they cause and all the havoc that’s going on around them. This film is the best medicine, I always watch it when I’m down. I don’t think you’re ever going to find another film like this one. It’s set in Italy, it’s shot beautifully and the cast is fantastic and you’ll be laughing all the way through. So now you know why The Italian Job Is my favourite film, I hope you enjoyed this post.

Robert Powell Jesus Of Nazareth Interview

This is an old interview with Robert Powell from the seventies, I think it came out a year after he did Jesus Of Nazareth. I found it very fascinating the way he talked about certain things. I watched it after I finished watching the series. It is a very short interview but it was very good and he was so cute and handsome in it, I just couldn’t take my eyes off him. I have no idea why it’s in black and white but it’s still great and watching this you kind of get an idea of how he thinks and I just found it very interesting overall. His performance in Jesus Of Nazareth was incredible and it’s really cool to find out how certain actors prepare for certain roles. The documentary where he goes back after a couple of years to that exact same location where they filmed it is very good too.

I hope you enjoy

Robert Powell In Thriller

Thriller is how I discovered Robert Powell, he was really incredible in it. He appeared in only two episodes, Lady Killer which was the first ever episode and Death To Sister Mary which was a little bit later on into series 3. He gave a great performance in both episodes and he was really cute, I loved the fashion in the episode, very seventies. They are two of my favourite episodes of Thriller. This was my introduction to Robert Powell and his work and I just really enjoy watching him in films and TV shows from that decade. His characters in both episodes are really creepy and very sinister. If you haven’t yet discovered him as an actor then this is where I recommend you start because it showcases his acting. Every once in a while, I go back and I watch those two episodes again because they’re just so good. The stories are really interesting and the performances are amazing and for something that came out in the seventies, it’s very entertaining, creepy and sinister and knows how to capture an audience’s attention  and it’s something for all the horror fans out there. You’ll also discover a whole range of different actors and actresses from that decade. I’d recommend this to anyone who is a bit of a horror/ thriller fanatic, it’s a brilliant series and you’ll be intrigued by some of the stories like I was. I talked about this in a different post but I did an hour long essay so this is for anyone didn’t get to read the other post.

This is the first one, it’s called Lady Killer, starring Robert Powell. It’s very good, I love it. There’s something about this episode that I love so much, maybe it’s the location of where it’s filmed, the story, the performances, everything, it’s just great and I was really enthralled by the whole thing. Robert Powell was absolutely gorgeous when he was younger and I’ve got a slight crush on him at the moment. He was just so cute. His character was absolutely crafty, demented, unhinged and mad and you kind of wanted to see what he did next.

This episode is about this American girl who is a librarian and she meets this guy {played by Robert Powell} and he tries to worm his way into her life when he finds out that she’s got money but he’s got other things in store for her. It’s very good and I loved the performances from the cast, including Robert who was fantastic.

Watch episode here

And Death To Sister is about this actress who plays a nun in a TV drama series who suddenly gets stalked by a mad fan{Robert Powell and suddenly everyone who is involved in the making of the show have near fatal accidents all to do with this one man. It’s very good and Robert’s character was very creepy and sinister and he gets obsessed with this actress and starts stalking her and putting everyone else around her in danger. This is a brilliant episode and I really enjoyed watching it as I watched with my family, we were both enthralled by it. It’s a great bit of television. Very mysterious and very creepy.

Watch these both when you have the time, I promise you, you won’t be disappointed.

I hope you enjoy

My Film Recommendations 4

Hi guys, welcome back to Big Blog Theory, I hope you’re all doing well. I’ve got some more film recommendations for you guys. I’ve been watching more films lately and I’ve discovered some wonderful films that I would love to share with you guys. So enjoy

So the first film I want to recommend is Bedazzled 1967. I love this film so much, I watched it a few weeks ago and it instantly became one of my favourite films. So it’s this film that came out in the sixties and it’s about this guy called Stanley Moon who works at a wimpy bar and he likes this girl but he doesn’t have the courage to ask her out, he’s a hapless loser and a no hoper and so at one of his visits to church he asks God to grant him the strength to ask her out but he summons the devil instead and the devil grants him seven wishes in return for his soul and once the devil is in his life, he causes havoc and slowly ruins his life. It’s such a great film, it’s really funny. It’s a Peter Cook and Dudley Moore film, I love Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, I love their comedy so much. I really love the plot idea for the film, I think it’s really creative and fun and just twisted and demented, I really love it, I’ve always wondered what it’s like if you have the devil in your life and this film is a prime example and obviously you’ve got Peter Cook playing the devil and he was brilliant as the devil. I think they did a remake of this with Brendan Fraser but the original is brilliant. It’s a very quirky film and if you love black humour then you’ll love this. And I sometimes shout ” Julie Andrews!!!” if you’ve seen the film, you’ll know the reference, brilliant film and it made me laugh a lot and it was perfect because I was just starting to get into their comedy and I was studying their comedy too. I so recommend this film, I love it so much. I’m such a nerd for classic British comedy.

The next film I’m going to recommend is Band Of Thieves 1962. I really liked this film. It came out in the sixties and it’s about these prison inmates who become famous jazz musicians but how long until they go back to their old ways? It’s a fun film and I love the jazz music in it. This is the film that got me into jazz music and I’ve been listening to some jazz music very recently. This film was a cool discovery I think, I watched it on Talking Pictures TV, I loved the idea that they were criminals who turned to jazz music as a main focus but then that guy was trying to make them take part in crime again. I recommend this film to any aspiring young or old jazz musician, it’s great.

The last film I’m going to recommend is The Rebel 1961. I really liked this film too. Basically Tony Hancock plays this guy who is so sick of his life and going to work every morning and being surrounded by others who have no personality or no imagination and he wants to go his own way and go out and do his own thing. So he wants to be an artist and he makes these mad sculptures and he drives his landlady up the wall with his mad creations and he feels like his art is not being appreciated in London so he goes out to Paris because he thinks he’ll be more appreciated there. I really loved this film, I thought it was really funny and it’s very creative, artistic, fun and thought provoking at certain times and very colourful and artsy. I recommend this film to any art students out there, I think you’ll really like this. And also, Irene Handl is in this, I love her, she’s such a great actress. She played Tony Hancock’s landlady in the film. I know her from The Italian Job 1969, that woman with the cats talking about that guy in the lounge doing something quite obscene with a net, ha ha. I honestly don’t know how she or those two kept a straight face throughout that scene, I would have started cracking up. They just looked severely disturbed, ha ha. I love her, she’s great, she was also really funny in The Rebel. I love music and art related films. This one’s great because it’s got such a brilliant cast, I loved the performances, the comedy, Tony Hancock was really funny. I love that bit at the end where he goes something like ” You’re all stark raving mad, the lot of you, you don’t even know what you’re looking at” I love that, I think it might have been a bit of a dig at some people who don’t understand art or who have no interpretations of art. I love films about normal people / working class folk getting together to beat the system or put two fingers up at the establishment, they’re always so fun and interesting to watch.

That’s all for now, I hope you liked these recommendations. I hope you all have a nice day wherever you are right now. I love you guys, take care

Stay tuned for more work on Big Blog Theory

Film Recommendations 3, Some More Of My Favourite Films

Hi guys, welcome back to Big Blog Theory, I hope you’re all doing well. I’ve got some more film recommendations for you guys, another three more. These are other films I love

So the first film I recommend is Some Will, Some Won’t, it’s a great, wonderful comedy film that came out in the early seventies. It was a remake of a classic old black and white British film called Laughter In Paradise. Some Will Some Won’t is such a brilliant film with a brilliant cast and it’s well written and really funny, it’s so much fun, I love this film so much. Basically it’s about this relative of this family who is really rich and wealthy, suddenly dies from dangerous circumstances after falling to his death after one of his mad capers and the family is contacted at the time of his death. They join one another at a family gathering which they will then determine their futures. They watch a tape, their grandfather left them before he died, this tape will determine what their lives are going to be like from then on and discuss financial matters.  After hearing him read out his will, they find out that he’s going to share out the inheritance with his family full of parasites but only on one condition. Before they receive their share of the inheritance, they have to do these tasks which is things they all hate doing. It’s a brilliant film, I love the idea for the plot, it’s got a great cast, you’ve got Wilfred Bramble, you’ve got Ronnie Corbett, you’ve got Leslie Phillips who are all brilliant classic British actors. I just really love this film so much, my dad likes this film so that’s how I knew about this film. It’s a gem. If there’s anyone reading this post who loves very quirky, twisted Classic British humour then you’ll love this film.

I am such a geek for classic black and white horror mystery films from the thirties and forties, they’re so good, I’ve been watching an old horror film every night. My favourite old horror, mystery films would have to be Psycho, The Old Dark House, The House On Haunted Hill, A Shadow Of A Doubt, Strangers On A Train, The Cat And The Canary, Gaslight, The Footsteps In The Fog, The Ghost Of St Michael’s and Ghost Train. These are all great old spooky horror films.

Another film I recommend is The Lady Killers which came out in 1955. I love this film, it’s basically about these crooks who pose as a bunch of musicians and they stay in this accommodation and while they are there, they plan a robbery all under the suspicion of the guy who is in charge and his land lady having no clue who they even are and what they’re doing in her apartment. It’s got a great cast, Peter Sellers, Alec Guinness and others. I remember that really funny bit where during the robbery and everyone’s causing havoc,  Frankie Howerd turns up and he’s  at the market and  the horses are trying to eat the fruit and he flips and the horses just do a total rampage and there’s fruit on the floor everywhere and he’s having this breakdown and the people watching it happen and they’re thinking ” What on earth, who is this nut case?” and I love that, it’s so funny. This film is so much fun. I think they did a remake of this but you can’t beat the original film, it’s a classic masterpiece. I discovered this film by accident and I fell in love with it. If you love films about heists and robberies, then you’ll love this and because of a brilliant cast, you won’t be bored. It’s a nice mix of drama, Gothic horror and comedy.

The last film I’m going to recommend is The Million Pound Note which came out in 1954 starring Gregory Peck. I love this film so much. Basically it’s about this guy {played by Gregory Peck} who comes down to The UK to find work because he doesn’t have any money and he finds himself to be a victim of a wager when he picks up a piece of paper with a million pounds. This is such a great film and Gregory Peck is so charming and handsome in this role and you can’t help but love him, a guy who doesn’t know what he’s letting himself in for. This is where they got the idea for the film Trading Places starring Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd which is also a great film but they’re both great in their own ways. I totally recommend this wonderful classic.

That’s it for this recommendation post, I’ll be doing more.
