Bob Dylan: A Fan Post

Hi guys, welcome back to Big Blog Theory, I hope you’re all doing well. Today, I’m going to be talking about Bob Dylan. I’ve been wanting to talk about him for a while now.

If you don’t know who Bob Dylan is or perhaps you’ve never heard of him before, basically, he was an American Folk singer/ songwriter/ street poet who became really famous in the sixties. He was very unique and a bit of an odd character. For me, he always wrote the most powerful , crazy lyrics in his songs and they all tell wonderful, beautiful stories. For me, the words speak for themselves and as he sings he just really brings them to life. I really love his music. Nobody can do it like Bob Dylan, he really has a way with words. What I also love about his songs is that there are no direct plot lines for the songs and what they’re about, the songs have different meanings, they mean different things to different listeners.  The guitar, the harmonica, the vocals and lyrics are so poetic, he has such a distinctive voice, it just sounds so wonderful and you can’t get enough of it.

I’ve been getting into his music very recently, I just really love him. He just sort of did his own thing and he just wouldn’t fit into a certain mould, he was constantly changing as a songwriter/ musician, he just didn’t care. He is also a big inspiration to me as a 19 year old aspiring songwriter/ composer and musician. Even though the two song writing styles are very different, his music just always brings out the creativity in me. I’m forever thankful to have access to his music and I’m always listening to his albums. I think my two music obsessions at the moment are Simon And Garfunkel like I’ve mentioned before and Bob Dylan and a few others too but mostly these two. These two have opened my brain these past few weeks and I just love their music so much, I’m always listening to them. Their music is brain therapy for me, it’s kind of healing in a way. I just want to find them and thank them for leaving all this wonderful music for us.

As someone who writes poetry, writes songs and is also currently learning how to play the piano, I love nothing more than putting my headphones on or blasting some Bob Dylan or Simon And Garfunkel at loud volume on my radio and I’ll listen to the music with a lovely cup of tea or having a bit of a dance around the room, that’s my happy place right there.

Some of my favourite songs of his are The Times They Are A Changin, Blowin In The Wind, Mr Tambourine Man, Like A Rolling Stone, It Ain’t Me Babe, Farewell Angelina, Just Like A Woman, She Belongs To Me, Love Minus Zero, Subterranean Homesick Blues and many more. It’s silly because I love a lot of his music, I can’t choose a favourite. Another one of my favourite songs of his is Baby Stop Crying, it’s slightly newer it came out in the early eighties but that is also a brilliant song, me and my dad love it, we’ve played that song so many times.

I’ve also been listening to Bringing It All Home, it is such a good album, I’ve listened to it so many times, there are so many good songs on that album. It’s when he first went electric. Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream is also a good song, especially right at the beginning of the studio version where he suddenly starts laughing and he has to start all over again, that was so funny and it caught me off guard. I totally recommend you check the album out, you will not be disappointed.

I’m so glad I discovered his work when I did because it is truly wonderful and he will always be an inspiration to me as a young person. I also have some of his books which I am so excited to read, I’ve got two copies of his song lyrics, volume one of his autobiography and his interviews, I’m so excited to read them.

That’s all for this post, thank you so much for reading this post, I hope you liked it, I hope you have a wonderful day wherever you are right now. Love you guys, stay tuned for more work on Big Blog Theory.
