Midnight Mass

Okay, so yesterday, I just finished watching a Netflix series, which is called Midnight Mass . If you don’t know what that is, basically, it’s a Netflix horror series. The story follows a character named Riley, and basically, he gets done for some car accident, which he ran over some girl whilst he was drink driving and he’s sentenced to four years in prison . When he comes out, he reunites with his family and he moves to an island . but the thing is, is that there’s some weird shit going on . Strange things happen on this island . Miracles and other weird stuff is occuring . I just finished watching it with my family, we watched the last episode, last night and it’s absolutely amazing . It’s such a great series . it blew me away . The story is great, it’s very disturbing, once you find out what they’re trying to do, like with the cults and stuff like that, but it’s so good . It’s one of those shows where you have to watch it properly, like you can’t be on your phone whilst watching it, you need to follow the story without any distractions . After watching it, I’m bloody traumatized, I can’t stop thinking about it, I really can’t, it was so disturbing but so brilliant at the same time . It’s just mad crazy imagination, I love stuff like that . How one person can come up with something like that, it makes you wonder . Micky Flanagan is an absolute genius, a serious writer . I think that Midnight Mass is one of those shows where you have to mentally prepare yourself to watch it . It was just so disturbing and chaotic .

It’s a slow burning horror, so it starts off okay and not much is going on, but then suddenly, it hits you and it makes you jump . I’m so glad I found out about this show . I’ve actually never heard of this show before, it wasn’t until my dad opened up a conversation about records and sound tracks, cause he follows this website, which is called Wax Work. Wax Work is a website where you can buy Film sound tracks and records, and one day, he was scrolling down, looking through all the records, when suddenly, a very peculiar record came up, yep you guessed it, it was Midnight Mass . It was the cover where it has all the characters on the front, then you could see the Priest, just looking absolutely bloody demented, haha. My dad thought ” What on earth is this ?, why does it keep popping up everywhere ?”, and they announced that the sound track for the series was coming out very soon, and he read some of the comments, and everyone was raving about it, literally begging for Wax Works to release the sound track for the series, and everyone was like ” Oh my god, please let it be Midnight Mass, let it be Midnight Mass, it has to be Midnight Mass ”, and the amount of likes that thing had, you know, usually something like that gets one two or three likes, but not this one, this one had 300 something likes, it was crazy . Everyone was raving about it, and now I know why, it’s because it’s a fantastic series . It’s one of the best things I’ve seen in so long, it’s this and the new season of Stranger Things, both of them are bloody brilliant .

After chaos unravels and the people on the island are witnessing some weird shit . Like there’s been a whole bunch of weird and strange events happening on the island . Cats are getting washed up on the shore, something’s been happening to them. You know, after Riley moves to this island, they experienced an oil leak, and other things have been happening as well . A few minutes into the first episode, we are introduced to another character, which is Father Paul . Father Paul is some demented priest who operates in this church. When I first saw him, I was like ” who the bloody hell is that ?, he looks demented ”. He was a bit eccentric and a bit mad . The whole time, you don’t know whether he’s the real priest or whether he’s not . It was almost like if you got some geezer from an asylum to do sermons in a church for a day and he suddenly flips and goes on a rampage, that’s exactly what it would be like . The actor who plays him is bloody brilliant, what an amazing actor . The performance he gave as that character is incredible . I’ve never even heard of this actor before, but now, as I got introduced to him, I’m amazed, I’m definetely gonna watch more of his stuff, cause he’s great . Himesh Linklater is so very simuliar to his character . He’s demented as well. I was watching a video, it was like a Q & A video with the cast of Midnight Mass. I just watching him and he does these hand gestures, that are so simuliar to what the priest does in the show . I was like ” Yeah man, demented priest ”, he ain’t different to his character . I can see why they chose him to play the role, they’re very simuliar in comparison, except the actor doesn’t wanna kill everyone on the island with his religious ways, haha . I’m so glad that he got an award for that role, it’s so well deserved . I actually don’t think that he won anything just yet, but I heard that he got nominated for a Emmy, which I really do hope that he wins something . He really went all out with his performance. The interesting thing about this character, is that you don’t know whether he’s good or whether he’s bad, you won’t know when you watch the first episode, but a few episodes in, it will all come together and it will all make sense .

This series had such a compelling story . Great story, great music, great characters, the cast is amazing. It was actually really emotional . Like there were bits where I almost cried, it’s just so well done . It’s perfect from start to finish . It’s also a limited a series as well, so they managed to cram all of that in when there’s only like seven episodes . I just love how they did it, it’s absolutely incredible . Normally, these kinds of shows aren’t really my thing, but this show just completely blew me away, there’s nothing like it . It’s a thought provoking series, it makes you think . Everyone was really into their church stuff and they had no idea what they were getting involved in . I think, half way through the series, you start to see this kind of thing happening, where everyone just follows the herd and they go along with dangerous situations just because everyone else is doing it, you start seeing it a lot . Like for an example, the sheriff’s son kept wanting to go to Church, he wasn’t even a Christian but he wanted to go just because his friends were going, and when he did, he ended up in deep shit . That’s a problem in today’s society as well, If you don’t think something’s right, then don’t do it, trust your gut, because it might save your life .

This show is very religious . A lot of religious beliefs are shown here . You know, with Christianity and all that stuff . I can’t see Catholics liking this show, I just can’t, they’d probably find it offensive . My dad said this too, and it’s so true . Everyone probably has different opinions on this show . This show features a lot of stuff about religious cults and stuff like that, those kinds of things happen a lot . It’s kinda like Stranger Things, because there’s weird stuff happening in that town but it’s not religious . There were a lot of miracles that were happening on the island . Everyone thought it was good stuff happening, when really, it’s quite sinister .

The whole cast really did a great job . Literally all the performances of all the characters in the show are amazing . They really went all out for this . I’ve never even heard of all these actors and actresses before, their names were unknown, but when I was introduced to this show, I was absolutely amazed at what I was seeing . I was introduced to so many amazing actors and actresses and I will definetely be seeing more of their work . I think Riley and Father Paul really carried the show . They were great . I don’t know who my favourite characters are, it’s kinda difficult to choose, but it makes you feel sorry for some of them. I ended up feeling sorry for Erin because she’s been through a lot . Most of the characters are really well written.

 

I bloody hate Bev with a passion, she’s demented . The whole time, she thought that Father Paul was Jesus, she just became more mad throughout the series . The whole resurrection thing was mad as well, it scared me to death . The priest just came up with that whole ” Join god’s army ”, thing, that’s where he started getting more and more mad . That’s when you know that it’s not gonna be good, especially when the priest starts saying that sort of thing . I feel like everyone was just like ” Where’s father Paul, where’s he gotten off to, this isn’t the priest we all know and love ”, it was like it definetely changed . But the scariest thing was that everyone was going along with it .

Overall, this show was amazing . It was disturbing, it had me on the edge of my seat. Absolutely phenominal . I will be watching it again, there’s no doubt about it . I totally recommend you to watch this series, me and my family thoroughly enjoyed it . I’m gonna try my very best not to have nightmares now, haha, obviously, somewhere along the way, I’m gonna have a dream that features the demented priest, haha, I bloody hope not, I’d run a mile . I remember having a dream that featured 001 / Peter Ballard from Stranger Things 4, and that happened a few a days after I watched the new season .  But I had a dream that I was in the rainbow room, yeah I know, it’s crazy . I just hope I don’t have a Midnight Mass related dream. If I do, that dream will stay with me for weeks .

There was also another thing where, every time there was a church scene, I would imagine some weird shit in my head . Every time the priest shows up in the ST Patricks church, it’s like every time he opens the door and makes an entry . I just couldn’t help but think of that scene in The IT Crowd, where Moss, Roy and Jen go to Denolm’s funeral, and then his son, Douglas turns up and shouts ” Fatherrrrrrrrr !!! ”, every time I see the priest show up, I always think of that bit . I don’t know why, I just struggle to take things seriously sometimes because of random thoughts . Midnight Mass is really really disturbing and serious so thinking of funny silly things will help the situation a little bit . If father Paul did that, that would have been hilarious, but The IT Crowd is a comedy and Midnight Mass is a demented horror so the two don’t go well together . That scene is hilarious, just how Douglas turns up and he has a fight with the priest, it’s just so funny . I love The IT Crowd, it’s one of my all time favourite TV shows . So that never happened in Midnight Mass but in an alternate universe, it did happen .

I don’t wanna spoil it for anyone, so I’m just gonna keep this nice and short .
