The Kids Of The Youth Detention Center, Chapter 6, We Can Be Heroes

The next morning, I woke up, I heard nothing but the sound of cars zooming down the road, it’s really weird because whenever I hear a car starting up, it reminds me of home and I just realized that there’s still loads of time until we get discharged, but I’m riding it out, hopefully that it will happen soon . I went to go outside for a bit of fresh air, since the room was very stuffy, so I walked and stood out on the front patio, but suddenly, things took an awful turn .

I saw this guy and he walked up to me and he didn’t look too happy, his clothes were ragedy and his trousers were ripped, and he was looking for a fight, I had to put on a straight face and see what was up .

” Hello, can I help you ?”, I said, as I stood there with my hands in my pockets .

” What are you doing here ?”, he asked, with a very unhappy face .

” What do you mean, I got admitted here, I’m an in mate ”, I replied .

” I’m gonna ask you to leave ”, he said, as he started pushing me off .

” No, leave me alone, why don’t you leave ?”, I said . And all I felt was the guy punching and kicking me in the stomach, I was concious, but I wasn’t aware of my surroundings and couldn’t get up either, because he was standing right in front of me and he’d step on me if I tried to escape . I was in great danger, until I saw somebody running down with a baseball bat and it was Carson, he wasn’t very happy with seeing me getting injured by a grown man, and so, he stepped in . And his response wasn’t very friendly .

” What the hell are you doing ?”, he shouted at the man .

” And you are ?”, he asked with a smirk .

” Carson, but it’s not related to the problem ”, he replied .

” What’s your problem ?”, the man asked .

” Leave the kid alone ”, Carson replied .

” Carson, what the H ?”, I said .

” What are you doing on the patio, Detroit ?”, Carson asked, as he was furious .

” I don’t know, I just came out for fresh air and this guy approached me ”, I said .

” You mess with him again, I’ll kill you ”, Carson warned him .

”Oh ok ”, the guy said with a frightened face, as his eyes went bigger .

” Just what I thought ”, Carson said, with a brave attitude, and he walked off with me . When we got back to the youth prison, the weirdest thing happened, I saw the boys clapping and cheering, I was so confused, I didn’t know why they were clapping .

” What is this ?”, I asked, as I was surprised .

” We saw what you and Carson did, it was awesome ”, Jay replied .

” Well, it wasn’t really me, it was all Carson, I did nothing ”, I said .

” Nonsense, it was you too, you guys make a great team, you guys should do more stuff together ”, Miles told me .

” Yeah, the kid is very brave, I would of died if he didn’t come, he’s great ”, I said .

” Oh stop it ”, Carson said, as he was flattered .

” No, I’m being serious, this kid is a national treasure ”, I added, as I was messing up his hair .

And we all laughed .
