The Boys Of New York City, Diary Entry, Reggie’s Insights On His Friends

Hello, this Reggie Mustafa Bancroft, I am 51 and I am a youth worker in New York City. For my job, I help young residents and communities who are in need . I specialize in mental health, I guide people through life as well . When I first started my job, I didn’t know what to expect, I just thought that I was gonna have meetings with other youth workers and do small pieces of work but I was wrong, I had to do so much more then that, I had to have ten meetings each week, including visits to the other councils, which is quite a lot if you think about it, but oh well, I get by . The main part of my job is talking to young residents and people and guide them through life when they are not getting anywhere and there are many of them who experience the same thing . The ones who are involved in this are these five boys called Ponyboy, Johnny, Dallas, Two Bit and Steve and they are very interesting if you ask me, very interesting indeed . They all have different qualities, they all hold different personas and attitudes . And doing my job with guys like these is very difficult, and I am going to be sharing my opinions, so buckle up, cause I’m gonna be taking you  on a ride of your lives, so ladies and gentlemen, here are my insights on my friends .

So one of the residents that I spend time with is Ponyboy. I have mentioned his name before, he is a very interesting young man, he is very passionate about his stuff, he loves to read and write, which is good to hear, learning to read and write is a good life skill and it will help you later on in life . He once writ a story called Fifty Shades Of Dread, which was kind of weird because the title doesn’t give much away, we all know that it’s gonna be about something depressing and I’m all about the positive energy, but when he explained the premise of the story, I kind of got an understanding of the whole thing. He based the storyline on Dallas and Johnny and how they go on trips at midnight on Dally’s motorcycle and Johnny has to say ” Oh there’s one ” every time they see a dog and god knows how many times they have done that, probably a million times now .

One of the other residents that I deal with is Dallas. He is a very cool person but he can be a bit passive aggressive at times, he once laughed at a cat falling off a rooftop of someone’s house, and that house wasn’t his, I have no idea why the cat was there in the first place, it doesn’t have halo wings, for god sake. Anyway, Dallas is a very interesting guy, he sort of reminds me of my son a little bit, I’m not saying that my son is a phyco killer but it’s just how it is, I’m afraid . He isn’t very accurate with his fashion choices, he always wears vibrant clothes . Once, he entered my office wearing a massive pink fabric coat and a massive pair of sunglasses and I was like, ” Oh shit, it’s Roberto Blanco ”, he was some icon but I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, cause there’s a phycho in my office, yeah, not to many indorphins, it wasn’t worth it one bit .

One of the other residents that I specialize with is Johnny. Johnny is a very innocent and unique person, he can come across a bit crazy sometimes, once, he forced me to tell Dallas that I was Michael Jackson and it didn’t end well. Johnny told me to say ” He he ” and it turned into a panic attack and he just gave me the stare and said ” You are not Michael Jackson ” and he just walked off and started laughing, man, that guy has some problems, but he is nice to me, he helps out with the bunch files and emails, definetely couldn’t do it all by myself, makes it so much easy .

One of the other residents that I work with is Steve. He is the class clown, even though we are not in a school, actually, it’s more like office clown, ok that sounds shit, I’m not doing that again in a hurry. Steve is quite clever, he makes me some coffee sometimes, I like my coffee nice and black with no sugar and he seems to get it right every time which is good . Once me and Steve went outside for a walk, the weather was nice and sunny, definetely rare in New York, other then that, it’s always raining and snowing . Anyway, when we were on a walk, he looks at me and says ” Reg, do you know that person who works in that gas station over there ?” and I said ” No, who works there ?” and then he says ” A vampire works there ” and I said with disbelief ” Don’t be silly ”  and  then he just turns around in silence, then the next I know, he just jumps on me like he was possessed or something and then he said, ” I’m the vampire, yeet ” and I just ran off without trace and I didn’t talk to him throughout the whole day, it just wasn’t worth my risk .

And lastly, we have Two Bit. He is a very humoress young man, he likes cracking jokes a lot, we need comedy during these trying times and laughter is the best medicine, and I have no problem with that, but there are times when he can get emotional, and when I say emotional, I don’t mean shedding a few tears, no no no no, I mean shouting and swearing, it could really pick up . One time, one of the boys made fun of his walk, I think it was Dallas, and Two Bit got furious and picked up my binder and he threw it across the room and it hit Johnny on the head. Ever since that incident occured, we learned not to make fun of him, otherwise, one of us will end up in the emergency room, and it won’t be Dallas or Steve, it will be me, but other then that, he’s alright, he’s cool .
