It’s A Sin
A week ago, I started watching a drama series called, It’s A Sin. If you don’t know on what it is, it’s basically a drama about gay men and their friends who come to London, and they are living their lives, finding love, but then, the HIV and Aids pandemic comes along and turns their lives upside down . It really shocked me, it was such a great story, it made me laugh and cry at the same time . This drama is written by Russel T Davis, he is known for writing another show called Queer As Folk, and he also directed some of the doctor who’s as well . This drama really pulled on my heart strings, Russel T Davis is such a talented writer, I cannot tell you . This story includes the main character who is called, Ritchie, and he comes to London to be an actor, and he’s gay, but then this horrible Aids pandemic turns his life upside down. My favorite characters were, Colin and Jill. Jill was just very caring and she put her life on the line for her friends when they needed it the most. Lydia West plays the role of Jill Baxter, her acting is amazing, she made me laugh and cry . All of the actors and actresses were amazing in it . I also loved Colin , he was just sweet and innocent and his story just breaks my heart, I almost cried when I watched Episode 3, the music was beautiful as well, it made me tear up, even when I haven’t watched the show . Callum Scott Howells plays the role of Colin Morris Jones, he did such a great job, he almost made me cry, and I do hope that he gets to do some more projects along the line . It’s A Sin really taught me about the Aids pandemic, and how the government dealt with it. It was such an eye opening drama, and many more people should watch it. Episode 5 absolutely broke me, and I was shocked by the ending . I’m not going to spoil it for anyone, but all I can say is that, it’s some of the best TV that I have ever watched in a very long time . I cried at that episode, and usually I don’t cry at dramas and stuff, but this time, it gave me an excuse to express my emotions . I actually said ” La ” with the characters and it made me feel so happy . How dare they use, Everybody Hurts at the end of the series, I almost cried, it’s so sad on how half of these characters were planning their lives ahead of them, but then the pandemic comes along . The only character I didn’t like, was Valerie . She was a total pain in the ass to her son and Jill . But it’s also interesting because she probably has a cause that triggered her to act like that, Keeley Hawes did a great job, at one point, she made me shout at my ipad because she was so vile, and that’s what makes the drama for what it is . The Aids pandemic went on in The 80s up until 1991, and many lives were lost during this awful time . It was so beautifully written, exciting andĀ funny . I aspire to write stories like Russel T Davis, I do write my own stories, but I want them to sound just like his ones . There were many sex scenes but I don’t mind . Aids is a sexually transmitted virus and it’s a part of the story, it was such an emotional rollercoaster, I loved every minute of it, There needs to be more dramas like this, I’m sure that there are hundreds of great dramas, but this one totally stands out . I’m totally in love with The pink palace as well, this drama broke me because it wasn’t fictional, I can’t believe that this actually happened in the 80s, it was so devistatingĀ . The music choices were amazing . The 80s was the best decade for music, and there was not one song that I didn’t like in the show, I just find myself jamming out to them . Olly alexander played the role of Ritchie, he did an amazing job, he made me laugh and cry throughout the show . He is also the main singer in the band, Years And Years, I have heard some of their songs, I have recently heard the song, Starstruck, and it’s amazing and it’s so upbeat and it makes me happy . Olly is an amazing singer and actor, like isn’t there anything that he can’t do ?. My hat goes off to the whole cast for making the drama happen . Ritchie is the main character, and he hasn’t come out to his family until later when he contracts Aids. He was quite self centered and ignorant, and he didn’t believe in Aids, he thought that it was a conspiracy, but it was a shock half way through the series, none of the characters deserved to contract this virus and it really gut punched me . Roscoe is another one of the characters, he comes from a Nigerian family and back round, and they weren’t really accepting when it came to Roscoe coming out and they wanted to send him to Nigeria to heal him, But there was also this scene that I Adored . It was in the first episode when All of the aunties and family members were in the room, and Roscoe turned up in a feminine outfit, and he confronted his disapproving family and said this really hilarious address, it went like ” I’m going now, so thank you very much, and if you want me to be forwarding any mail, I’ll be staying at, 23 piss off avenue, London w fuck ” and that made me laugh so much, he never gave a shit on what anybody thought, he was like, this is who I am, if you don’t like it, then you can piss off, which is clearly the mood, Russel T Davis is a genius, that will forever be my favorite scene from any tv drama . I also loved the scene where Roscoe and Steven Fry’s character went to a tory party conference , and he pissed in Margret Thatcher’s coffee, and I was like cheering, and my family probably heard me, and they were like ” What the hell ?” But like, this drama will definetly stick with me, and I’ll definetly binge it all over again . Another thing that I found quite interesting was that, Russel based this drama on his own life, and he had friends that went through this pandemic, and also, Jill is a real person, she was based on one of Russel’s good friends, and she played in some musicals and plays in The west end, and she also spent half of her time sitting next to Aids and HIV patients’s hospital beds and held their hands, which was so nice of her, even with all of the uncertainty and fear of catching and transmitting the disease, she still hugged and spent time with friends who had it, which was so pure and she was a hero . But one thing that made me devestated, was that most people and the media called Aids ” The gay disease ” which is so disgusting that people did say that . The story was so powerful and you watch the drama to see the characters grow, but the disease comes along, and we were crying happy and sad tears . This virus hasn’t fully gone, it’s definetly better, but it still exists, and hopefully, we can find a cure for it one day. My heart goes out to all of the families and people who suffered greatly because of this virus, and trust me, it’ll get better . Also the scene in the first episode where Ritchie is getting on a boat and arriving on The Earl of Wight, and his father gives him a pack of condoms and Ritchie throws them in the sea, and that’s when you know that something’s about to go down, the series has a strain of uncertain events and you just can’t wait to watch more of it, that’s why I just binged it all in one go, and now I’m just suffering the heartbreak, but I’m so happy that I watched it, it was definetly worth my time . Fun fact, the real Jill Nalder, plays the role of Jill’s mother in the series, which I think is very cool, Russel T Davis really went in on this show, such an epic ride of emotion, and I love it .
This drama is written by Russel T Davis but it’s directed by some other producers . The producers are Davis and Nicola Shindler, Phil Collinson hired as the show’s producer, and Peter Hoar as the director .
The cast .
Olly Alexander plays the role of Ritchie Tozer .
Omari Douglas plays the role of Roscoe .
Lydia West plays the role of Jill Baxter .
Neil Patrick Harris plays the role of Henry Coltrane .
Keeley Hawes plays the role of Valerie Tozer { Ritchie’s mum}
